Ayumi Hamasaki adalah seorang penyanyi, penulis lagu, produser rekaman, model, dan aktris asli Jepang yang lahir pada tanggal 2 Oktober 1978. Di awal karirnya sebagai aktris, Ayu, sapaan akrabnya, menjalin hubungan dengan soerang penyanyi yang juga aktor, Tomoya Nagase.

Ayumi dan Tomoya mengumumkan hubungan mereka pada tahun 2001. Dan, enam tahun kemudian, terdengar kabar bahwa mereka sudah menikah. Namun, pada pertengahan tahun 2007, Ayumi mengumumkan perpisahan mereka tanpa menyebutkan alasan yang jelas.

Lama berselang, di awal tahun 2011, Ayumi mengabarkan bahwa dirnya akan segera menikah dengan aktor dan model asal Australia, Manuel Schwarz yang baru dikenalnya pada bulan Agustus 2010 saat pembuatan video klip untuklagunya Virgin Road. Namun ternyata, dikabarkan bahwa Ayumi dan Schwarz sudah menikah pada tanggal 2 Januari di Amerika.

Ayumi Hamasaki mendapat julukan sebagai 'ratu pop Jepang' dengan top hit Love-Destiny (1999). Debut albumnya pada tahun 1998 dengan singlenya Poker Face tercatat telah terjual lebih 50 juta kopi album dan singlenya untuk penjualan di Jepang, belum terhitung di banyak negara lainnya.

Ia telah merilis 8 album studio, 40 single, satu mini album, dan 4 album kompilasi dalam naungan perusahaan rekaman Avex Trax. Single ke-40-nya, berjudul Blue Bird, juga telah memecahkan rekor melampaui angka targer penjualan yang mencapai 20 juta kopi.

Dalam perjalanan karirnya Ayumi berhasil meraih sejumlah penghargaan. Di antaranya Grand Prix Japan Record Taishou dan Grammmy Award Jepang 3 kali berturut-turut. Pada tahun 2004, dirinya juga pernah menolak menerima penghargaan lewat singlenya Inspire, akibat konflik dalam Avex.

Pada tahun 2007, Ayu merilis album kompilasi A Best 2 dalam dua versi yaitu Black dan White. penjualan kedua album di minggu pertama menembus angka 945.000 kopi.

Bulan April 2011, Ayumi merilis 4 album remix baru, yaitu Ayu-mi-x 7 Version House, Ayu-mi-x 7 Version Acoustic Orchestra, Ayu-mi-x 7 Presents Ayu Trance 4, dan Ayu-mi-x 7 Presents Ayu-ro Mix 4. Tak hanya itu, dia juga meluncurkan Ayu-mi-x 7 Limited Complete Box Set.
