Aliaune Badara Akon Thiam, atau lebih dikenal sebagai Akon lahir 16 April 1973 adalah seorang penyanyi R&B sekaligus penulis lagu berdarah Senegal-Amerika. Berdasarkan survey majalah Forbes, penghasilan Akon mencapai $21 juta pada tahun 2010, $20 juta pada tahun 2009 dan $12 juta pada tahun 2008.

Namanya mulai dikenal sejak tahun 2004 setelah berhasil merilis single pertamanya berjudul Locked Up dari debut album TROUBLE. Sedangkan album keduanya, KONVICTED, berhasil membawanya sebagai salah satu nominator Grammy Award dari single Smack That. Akon sendiri telah berhasil mendirikan dua label rekaman, yaitu Konvict Muzik dan Kon Live Distribution.

Akon sering berduet dengan artis lain dan saat ini tercatat telah tampil dalam lebih dari 300 show dan memiliki 45 lagu Billboard Hot 100 . Selain itu, dia telah banyak menjalin kerja sama dengan artis ternama seperti Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Quincy Jones, Eminem dan Whitney Houston.

Akon adalah artis solo pertama yang memegang peringkat pertama dan kedua sekaligus dalam chart Billboard Hot 100 sebanyak dua kali. Akon juga telah meraih 5 nominasi Grammy Awards dan telah menghasilkan banyak hits untuk artis seperti papan atas seperti Lady Gaga, Colby O'Donis dan Leona Lewis. Lady Gaga dan T-Pain adalah dua artis yang dapat menggapai tangga kesuksesan berkat Akon.

Akon juga telah merilis sebuah lagu yang berjudul Beautiful dimana dia bernyanyi bersama Colby O'Donis dan Kardinal Offishall dalam album FREEDOM yang dirilis pada tahun 2008 dan juga single Right Now (Na Na Na) dalam album yang sama.

Pada tahun 2011 ini, Akon menggelar turnya di Indonesia. Gelaran bertajuk AKON Live in Concert 2011 bertempat di JIExpo Kemayoran Jakarta, pada tanngal 13 November 2011.
