MU memperoleh peluang pertamanya di menit 11 ketika Nani yang mengecoh beberapa pemain Newcastle, melepaskan tembakan keras dari kotak penalti dan bisa ditepis Tim Krul. Bola rebound langsung diamankan Krul sebelum Dimitar Berbatov menggapainya.

Berbatov pada menit 14 punya peluang juga mencetak gol ketika crossing Patrice Evra berhasil menemuinya di kotak penalti. Tapi tandukannya yang membentur badan Davide Santon masih tertahan tiang gawang.

Newcastle akhirnya mampu unggul di menit ke-32, ketika sebuah bola panjang dari Krul berhasil digapai Shola Ameobi dan mengarahkan bola ke Ba di kotak penalti.

Tanpa banyak melihat gawang dan sambil dibayangi Rio Ferdinand, Ba melepaskan sepakan first time ke tiang jauh dan Lindegaard hanya terpaku melihat gawangnya dibobol.

Hingga turun minum skor 1-0 tetap bertahan.

Cabaye! Baru semenit babak kedua berjalan Newcastle berhasil menggandakan keunggulan. Kali ini lewat free kick Cabaye dari jarak 30 yard. Bola ia sepak kencang ke pojok kanan gawang atas Lindegaard dan tak kuasa digapai kiper asal Denmark itu.

Tak banyak lagi peluang yang didapatkan kedua tim dan relatif bola lebih banyak berkutat di lapangan tengah, sampai di menit 90 Newcastle menambah perbendaharaan golnya.

Krul menendang bola hingga mencapai kotak penalti MU dan Jones yang hendak membuang malah mengarahkannya ke gawang sendiri. Lindegaard yang sudah mati langkah hanya terpaku melihat gawangnya dibobol.
