Reloxin, Saingan Baru Botox

Dalam beberapa bulan ke depan, Food and Drug Administration Amerika (FDA) berencana mengeluarkan persetujuan penggunaan Reloxin sebagai terapi suntik untuk menghilangkan kerut. Dibuat dari bahan yang sama dengan botox, yakni neurotoxin, reloxin disebut-sebut bekerja lebih cepat dengan hasil tahan lama, dibandingkan dengan botox.

Yang menggembirakan, harga suntik reloxin bakal lebih murah dari botox. Saat ini harga sekali suntik botox berkisar Rp 4 juta - 5 juta.

Setelah melalui penelitian panjang, botox telah dipakai dalam dunia kedokteran untuk mengatasi otot yang berkerut, mengatasi kelainan sistem syaraf mata pada anak-anak, dan berbagai kondisi lainnya, selama hampir tiga dekade. Sejak tahun 2002, botox mendapat persetujuan FDA untuk digunakan dalam dunia kecantikan.

Sementara itu Reloxin telah dipasarkan selama beberapa tahun terakhir ini di Eropa dan Amerika Selatan dengan merek dagang Dysport, yang dibuat dari neurutoxin yang sama dengan botox yang aslinya dikembangkan untuk mengatasi kelainan otot.

Menurut Michelle Konsinski dari NBC News, perbedaan dua obat ini adalah reloxin akan bekerja dalam tempo satu hingga dua hari pasca injeksi, sedangkan botox baru bekerja setelah tiga hingga lima hari. Uji klinis juga menunjukkan hasil suntik reloxin bisa bertahan hingga lima atau enam bulan. Bandingkan dengan botox yang hanya tahan tiga bulan.

"Dua obat ini bekerja dengan cara yang sama, yakni melemaskan otot yang tegang," kata Dr. Nancy Snyderman, NBC’s chief medical editor. Dalam dunia kecantikan, obat ini dipakai untuk melemaskan otot yang menimbulkan kerutan.
